Ramblers route Kodiaks
The Loyola University Ramblers opened up the 2016 season hosting the UM-Flint this past Sunday. The Ramblers got off to a rough start on offense with a quick 3-and-out, followed with an interception by QB Adam Klepp in the Loyola redzone. After the Rambler defense forced a short punt, Loyola opened up the scoring when QB Klepp scampered for a 19-yard TD run on 4th down. The Ramblers drew first blood and would not let up, adding 7 additional touchdowns. The scores included runs by Matt Bos, Varmah Dulleh, James Rodriguez and a pair of catches by Isaiah Powell and Conor Deal.
The Rambler defense joined in on the scoring adding a 60-yard interception return by Dan Catlin for a score, and a blocked punt returned by Kenny Sweezey for a touchdown. The defense was anchored by a stingy defensive line who forced 5 interceptions and 7 sacks, which included 2 picks by rookie Larenz Jones. The Ramblers pitched a shut out in their 53-0 win over the Kodiaks. Rookie Head Coach Connor Gomer had this to say after the game, "The guys played hard and didn't quit. They realized the importance of making a statement -- that we are here to compete at the highest level in the NCFA. They bought into that and made a statement. I think that's obvious from the score at the end of the game. Extremely excited to see what the season holds for this special group of hungry guys."
The Ramblers hit the road for Ohio this upcoming weekend as they take on Wright State, who handed the Ramblers a 29-6 loss a season ago.
